Silverfish
Silverfish as their name suggests are silver in colour, wingless and have a flattened body covered in tiny scales.
They are generally up to 15mm long and because their body tapers to the rear, they are often said to have a fish-like appearance.
Antennae are usually long and slender, and three long appendages from the rear of the abdomen are very obvious.
Silverfish are very agile, fast running nocturnal insects that are usually found in dark, undisturbed places such as roof cavities, wall voids and subfloor areas.
They feed on mostly human food but prefer starchy materials. They are known to attack books, wallpaper, photographs, cottons and linens.
